Nightbirds,
Black as darkness,
Stand sentinel upon the caved-in roof,
In arrogance we surrendered,
Our palaces to porcupines,
And scuttling creatures,
Our refuge now leans gauntly,
A nest for jackals and wolves,
A den for predators,
Desolate but not vacant,
Leveled but not silent,
The howls in our homes resound,
Succumbing to our wilderness,
Falling to our fate,
The wild world inherits our cities,
