Believe (Prenatal) Science

I’m sure you’ve seen/heard it:

“I believe in science.”

“Believe science.”

“Don’t be a science-denier.”

Most of the time, these words are spoken in reference to the environment or the COVID-19 pandemic. There are other instances of the phrase as well.

To “believe in science” today is a bare minimum requirement to be esteemed as a well-educated person. Those who “deny” climate change or COVID-19’s dangerous spread are deemed backwards and conspiratorial.

Sadly, even science has become politicized in America. With some certain groups more prone to “deny” science over others. Those on the left are particularly fond of “believing science” and disdaining those who don’t.

But here lies the irony. Science-believers turn up their noses at those who disregard science and act in defiance of scientific realities. Yet some of those same people repeatedly either deny science or act in defiance of its realities when it comes to unborn life.

The Science of the Pro-Life Position

Leftists seem to take it for granted that science is on “their side”. But it isn’t always. Science does not support the pro-abortion claim that an unborn child is only a “clump of cells” or tissue.

To quote just a few scientific realities concerning life at conception:

“Human life begins when the ovum is fertilized and the new combined cell mass begins to divide.” – Dr. Jasper Williams, Former President of the National Medical Association [source]

“To accept the fact that after fertilization has taken place a new human has come into being is no longer a matter of taste or opinion… it is plain experimental evidence. Each individual has a very neat beginning, at conception.” – Dr. Jerome Lejeune, “The Father of Modern Genetics” [source]

“Thus, the scientific evidence is quite plain: at the moment of fusion of human sperm and egg, a new entity comes into existence which is distinctly human, alive, and an individual organism — a living, and fully human, being.” [source]

Science Denial…or Defiance?

The pro-abortion community has been largely forced to give up on the argument that unborn children aren’t living human beings.

The pro-abortion argument simply can’t stand on science.

As a result, one of three things is happening:

Either pro-abortion advocates are ignorant to the science of prenatal development, they are willfully “denying” the science of prenatal development, or they are willing to admit the truth but are defying the science of prenatal development.

Scenario #1 implies that they’ve been living under a rock for the last few decades and are scientifically illiterate.

Scenario #2 implies that they’re no better than someone who denies that COVID-19 is a real disease. That is, a “science-denier”, the very thing they disdain.

And, Scenario #3 implies that they’re the type of person who knows how dangerous COVID-19 can be, tests positive, and willfully goes out in public and infects others. They know. They just don’t care.

None of these are very flattering positions to be in. It’s time for the “believe science” crowd to get clear about how far they take that mantra. If they can’t believe all science, including prenatal science, then the least they can do is admit their hypocrisy.
